##PHOTO1##En 1617, Marie de Médicis fit bâtir par Boyeau de la Barraudière un jardin ressemblant au Jardin Boboli de Florence dans le 6° arrondissement de Paris. Celui-ci ouvrit en 1778 et dans les années 1820, le roi Louis XVIII en devint le propriétaire, ce qui le fit devenir, un jardin public.
Cet immense espace de plus de 20 hectares est bordé par le musée et le Palais du Luxembourg, siège du Sénat. Les parisiens comme les touristes l’apprécient pour son charme, c’est un jardin qui offre à la fois prestige et grandeur. On y trouve un kiosque à musique, un manège de chevaux de bois réalisé par Garnier, tous deux datant du XIX° siècle. D’autres espaces plus récents sont réservés aux loisirs et on découvre au fil des promenades plus d’une centaine de sculptures réalisées par des artistes du XIX° siècle, tel que Bourdelle.
##PHOTO2##Loin de l’agitation parisienne le jardin du Luxembourg offre une bouffée de tranquillité aux amoureux de promenade et de farniente. On s’y repose sur un banc, on lit un roman sur ses célèbres chaises vertes, on profite de la fraicheur sous les grands arbres…
La fontaine Médicis est l’un des sites les plus célèbres du jardin du Luxembourg, elle fut surnommée la « grotte du Luxembourg » au XVII° siècle.
La végétation y est très diversifiée, bigaradier, lauriers, orangers, grenadiers, mais aussi marronniers, platanes, tilleuls…
