##PHOTO1##Point de départ de la Révolution, La Bastille est aujourd'hui plus connue pour son opéra à l’architecture contemporaine qui met en scène des spectacles diversifiés pour tous publics.
Inauguré le 14 juillet 1989, à l’occasion du bicentenaire de la Révolution française et de la prise de la Bastille, l’origine de l’Opéra Bastille remonte à 1982. Le Président de la République François Mitterrand souhaite donner à Paris un deuxième opéra qui répond à une désacralisation de l’art lyrique joué à l’Opéra Garnier. Il imagine un opéra « moderne et populaire » accessible à tout un chacun.
En 1983, l’architecte uruguayen Carlos Ott est désigné comme responsable de l’édification du bâtiment à l’issue d’un concours international organisé par la ville de Paris. Les travaux débutent en 1984. Le monument prend place à l’est de Paris, quartier populaire qui répond symboliquement au souhait du Président, et remplace la gare de Paris-Bastille.
Les travaux s’achèvent en 1989 et laissent place à un bâtiment qui s’élève à 80 mètres de haut. La façade extérieure, aux allures modernes, joue sur des effets de transparence. Elle est composée de marbre anthracite et de verre et rend ainsi l’intérieur visible. Un intérieur constitué de matériaux aux provenances variées : bois de poirier de Chine, granit bleu de Bretagne et marbre blanc de Vérone.
En mars 1990, le Palais Garnier et l’Opéra Bastille fusionnent pour former l’Opéra de Paris. Le 17 mars 1990 Les Troyens de Berlioz inaugure l’opéra.
En 1994, l’Opéra de Paris devient Opéra National de Paris s’ouvrant ainsi vers l’étranger.
Ce grand théâtre moderne peut accueillir jusqu'à 2700 personnes avec une vue imprenable sur une scène. Son acoustique et son plateau technique sont reconnus à l’unanimité.
